What Happens When You File

Your carrier handles the claim. We stay in your corner.

Once a claim is reported, your insurance carrier assigns an adjuster, reviews the loss, and decides how it's covered under your policy. That part is entirely between you and the carrier, we don't adjust claims or issue payments.

What we do is make sure nothing falls through the cracks: helping you report it to the right place, checking that you understand what the adjuster is asking for, and following up if things stall.

Types of Claims

Most claims fall into one of two buckets.

The paperwork looks different, but the goal is the same: get your loss reported and moving toward resolution.

Property

Home & Property Claims

Damage to a home, rental, or business location

Fire, water damage, wind, hail, theft, or vandalism affecting a dwelling or commercial property. Usually involves an adjuster inspecting the property in person or virtually.

  • Document the damage with photos before cleanup or repairs
  • Keep receipts for any emergency repairs (like tarping a roof)
  • An adjuster typically inspects before repairs move forward
Auto & Liability

Auto & Liability Claims

A collision, injury, or third-party liability claim

Vehicle accidents, injuries on your property, or claims where someone else says your business or driving caused them harm. Often involves a police report or incident report.

  • Get a police or incident report whenever one is available
  • Exchange information but avoid admitting fault at the scene
  • Report it promptly, most policies require timely notice

Also Worth Knowing

You don't have to navigate the adjuster alone.

Claims paperwork uses a lot of unfamiliar language, and it's easy to feel like you're on your own once the claim number is issued. We're not a substitute for your carrier's claims team, but we can explain what a request actually means, and flag it if a claim seems stuck longer than it should be.

If you're ever unsure whether something is normal or a red flag, reach out and ask. That's part of the service, not an extra.

Frequently Asked Questions

Filing a claim, answered.

The questions we hear most often about the claims process.

Your claim is ultimately handled by your insurance carrier, they're the ones who adjust it and issue payment under your policy. You can always start by contacting us, though. We'll point you to your carrier's claims line or portal and stay involved to help however we can.
As soon as reasonably possible. Most policies require "prompt notice" of a loss, and waiting too long can complicate the claim or, in rare cases, give the carrier grounds to question it. When in doubt, report it right away, even if you're not sure yet how serious it is.
It depends on the type of claim, the cause of loss, and your carrier's specific rules, some claims (like a comprehensive auto claim for a cracked windshield) rarely affect rates, while at-fault liability claims are more likely to. Ask us about your specific situation before deciding whether to file, if it's not an emergency.
Generally: your policy number, the date and location of the loss, a description of what happened, photos if available, and a police or incident report if one was filed. For auto claims, also have the other party's information if there was one involved.
It varies widely by claim type and complexity. A straightforward auto glass claim might resolve in days; a property claim involving a full inspection, contractor estimates, and adjuster review can take weeks. We can help you understand what's typical for your specific claim.
Let us know. We can't override an adjuster's decision, but we can help you understand the reasoning, point you to your carrier's appraisal or appeal process if one applies, and make sure the decision was actually based on your policy's terms.
No. Helping clients navigate claims is part of our normal agency service, not an add-on. It's included whether the claim is large or small.
